Photo geotagging app — two different jobs
Type photo geotagging app or geotag photo app into search and you will mostly see GPS Map Camera–style products: they open a camera, read the phone GPS, and stamp date, time, or address onto the pixels. That is useful for field reports, insurance, and surveying. It is not the same product as batch geotagging a mirrorless card from a track after the hike.
Category A — live stamp / watermark cameras
- Shoot inside the stamp app (or process phone photos immediately).
- Overlay text or a map badge on the image itself.
- Great when the deliverable is the stamped JPG.
- Weak when you need clean files for Lightroom or client delivery without burned-in text.
Category B — post-shoot EXIF geotaggers
- Shoot with any camera; record where you were separately (phone track, Garmin, GPX).
- Match by capture time on a computer or tablet.
- Write EXIF GPS (and often IPTC place names) into the files.
- Maps and catalogs read location without a visible stamp.

Category C — “just turn on Location Services”
For photos taken with the iPhone Camera app, enabling Location Services can embed GPS in those phone files. That does nothing for a Sony, Fuji, Canon, or Nikon body that never saw GPS. Travel photographers who carry a real camera still need a track + matcher.
