The coordinates are wrong, or a photo did not match

Almost always a clock problem rather than a GPS problem. Three things to check, in this order:

• The timezone. EasyGeotag preserves timezone data embedded by each camera. For photos without one, open the matching controls and set Photo timezone to the zone you were shooting in, or read it from the track. A wrong fallback zone shifts those photos by whole hours.
• The camera clock. Bodies drift, and most are never set for daylight saving. Set the offset in hours, minutes and seconds — or use Set From a Photo, photograph your phone's clock, and let the app work it out.
• The match window. If you were moving fast or the signal was poor, widen it. If frames are snapping to the wrong part of the route, narrow it.

A photo that still will not match can be placed by hand: drag it from the grid onto the map and drop it where you were standing.

My photos already contain GPS

EasyGeotag marks them with Existing GPS before anything is written. Turn on Skip photos that already have GPS to preserve those coordinates, or leave it off if you intentionally want to replace them.

I want my original files back

Every file modified in place is copied into a backup folder beside the photos before anything is written. Choose Restore Originals from the toolbar's overflow menu and they go back exactly as they were. The backups are kept, so you can restore more than once. Sidecar-only RAW operations never modify the original RAW file.

My RAW files got a .xmp file instead of being tagged

That is the iPad behaving as designed. iPadOS cannot run the ExifTool program the Mac uses, and no supported API can rewrite a proprietary RAW container, so the iPad writes an XMP sidecar next to the RAW instead. Lightroom, Camera Raw, Bridge and Capture One all read one, and your original file is never opened for writing.

If you would rather the coordinates went inside the file, tag the same folder on the Mac.

By default, EasyGeotag leaves a sidecar from another app untouched. You can enable Update location in existing XMP sidecars in Settings to replace only its GPS and location fields. Ratings, keywords, develop settings and all other metadata are preserved.

Can I use a track from my Garmin, or another logger?

Yes, and you can skip the iPhone app entirely if you would rather. On Mac or iPad, choose Open GPX File… from the track list and select a standard GPX track from a watch, handheld, action camera, or other software. It appears under Recent Files for the same photo-matching and metadata-writing workflow as an iPhone-recorded trip.

The last eight files you opened are kept under Recent Files, so a track you keep coming back to stays one click away. On Mac, right-click an entry to reveal it in Finder. On Mac or iPad, you can remove an entry from the recent-files list without deleting the GPX itself.

On iPhone, open or share a GPX from Files into EasyGeotag. It is imported into Trips, where you can inspect, rename and sync it; importing the same route again opens the existing trip instead of making a duplicate.

Can I tag photos on the iPhone itself?

No, and that is deliberate rather than unfinished. The iPhone is the recorder you carry; tagging needs a screen big enough to judge a match and real access to a folder of originals, which is what the Mac and the iPad give you. The iPad runs the same workspace the Mac does, not a stretched-up phone screen.

Your purchase still covers all three apps. Recording on the iPhone is free and always has been — the five-photo demo only ever counts photos written to.

Where do the GPX files live, and can I move them?

By default they go to the EasyGeotag folder in your iCloud Drive, where the Files app and the Mac can both see them. In Settings ▸ iCloud you can point the GPX folder somewhere else — another iCloud folder, or a third-party storage provider that appears in the Files app. Trips themselves keep syncing either way.

My trips are not showing up on the Mac or iPad

Trips travel over your own iCloud account. Check that all the devices are signed into the same Apple Account and that iCloud Drive is on. Recording works without iCloud — the trip simply stays on the phone, and you can send the GPX file across by any means you like.

I bought it and the other app still wants payment

One purchase covers Mac, iPad and iPhone. If a device has not noticed, choose Restore Purchases on the unlock screen. Make sure it is signed into the same Apple Account that made the purchase; the bundle also works through Family Sharing.

I do not see “Suggest from Route” when I rename a trip

Manual renaming works on every supported device. The optional suggestion appears on compatible iPhone, iPad and Mac devices running OS 26 or later when Apple Intelligence supports the current language. If Apple Intelligence is off or its on-device model is still preparing, the rename sheet explains what is needed.

The suggestion is made on device from a summary of the route: its shape, movement pattern, distance, duration, time of day, overall direction and meaningful elevation gain. EasyGeotag can offer up to three ranked choices, understands loops and point-to-point journeys, and avoids names already in your library. Raw coordinates are not sent to the language model; existing trip names may be supplied to the on-device model only to avoid duplicates. You can choose, edit or ignore every suggestion; the trip and its GPX file are renamed only after you tap Save.

Use Apple Place Lookup is optional and on by default. When enabled, progressively selected representative route coordinates go to Apple's geocoding service to obtain place names; they still do not enter the language-model prompt and are never sent to EasyGeotag.

Can I control how the iPhone records GPS points?

Yes. In continuous mode, Minimum confirmed movement saves another point only after movement exceeds your chosen threshold plus the uncertainty of both GPS fixes. Turn on Use a logging interval, then choose Interval from 15 seconds to 5 minutes, to trade route detail for battery life; photos between samples are interpolated. You can also set Max GPS accuracy to reject uncertain fixes.

Can I move the map while a trip is recording?

Yes. Pan or zoom the live map normally. When you want to return to your latest recorded location, tap Center Map; EasyGeotag keeps your chosen zoom level instead of forcing the map back to its original view.

Can I see distances in miles?

Yes. Settings ▸ Units switches every distance in the app between metric and imperial. It changes display only; the GPX file and the coordinates written into your photos are unaffected.

How much is free?

Five photos. Everything else — recording, matching, the map, adjusting clocks — is unlimited before you buy anything. The five only counts photos actually written to, so a failed write costs you nothing.

Privacy

Nothing is collected and there is no server of ours anywhere in the path. The privacy policy has the detail.
