Privacy Policy
The short version
Your photos, filenames, recorded tracks and precise locations are never sent to EasyGeotag. We use a small server-side record only to keep the five-photo demo to five photos per Apple Account across devices and reinstalls. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking.
What the app handles
Location. The iPhone app records GPS positions to build a track, which is the entire purpose of the app. It requests "Always" access so recording continues while your phone is locked and in your pocket during a shoot.
Tracks are stored:
- on your device, and
- in your iCloud account — iCloud Drive and the CloudKit private database — so the Mac and iPad apps can see them.
We have no access to your iCloud account. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Photos. The Mac and iPad apps read photos from a folder you explicitly choose, and write GPS coordinates and place names into those files. On iPad, RAW files get an XMP sidecar written beside them instead, and the RAW itself is left untouched. Photos are never uploaded anywhere. They are only read from and written to the location you picked.
Place names. On Mac, Write place names (city, state, country) controls whether city, state and country are written into your photos. It is on by default and can be turned off in Settings. While online, EasyGeotag also sends matched photo locations to Apple's geocoder to show place names as labels, and to suggest trip names if Use Apple Place Lookup is on. Locations go to Apple, never to us. Offline, only GPS is written and the place fields stay empty.
Optional trip-name suggestions. On compatible Apple Intelligence devices, EasyGeotag can use Apple's on-device language model to suggest a short name for a recorded route. Before doing so, the app reduces the route to facts such as shape, movement pattern, distance, duration and time of day, and can return up to three editable suggestions. Raw route coordinates are not included in the language-model prompt. Existing trip names may be supplied to the on-device model only as a local duplicate-avoidance reference. The suggestions are generated on the device and are not sent to us. When Use Apple Place Lookup is on (the default), the app progressively selects representative route samples and sends those coordinates to Apple's geocoding service to obtain place names before the on-device model runs. You can turn that setting off. Without an internet connection, no place lookup happens.
Free-photo allowance. Before a free photo is geotagged, the Mac or
iPad app sends Apple's signed AppTransaction proof to
easygeotag.app. The proof lets the server verify the app and
derive an opaque identifier that Apple keeps stable for this app and Apple
Account. We retain a one-way hash of that identifier, the number of free
photos used, and recent random operation identifiers needed to make retries
safe. We never receive your Apple Account name, email, password, payment
details, photos, filenames, tracks or locations through this process.
Cloudflare processes these requests and stores the counter on our behalf.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal data.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs.
- We do not upload photos, filenames, tracks or locations to our server.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
This website
The site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from a third-party domain — the typefaces are served from here rather than from Google Fonts. Cloudflare hosts the site and the free-photo service and may process ordinary request metadata such as IP address and User-Agent for delivery and security. We do not use that metadata to build a profile of you.
Purchases
The EasyGeotag bundle is sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details. We receive only anonymous, aggregate sales reports from Apple.
Children
EasyGeotag is not directed at children. The free-photo counter works in the same limited way for every user and is not used to determine anyone's age.
Third-party components
The Mac app includes ExifTool by Phil Harvey, used locally to write metadata into RAW files. It runs entirely on your Mac and makes no network connections. It is distributed under the same terms as Perl (Artistic License / GPL). It is not part of the iPhone or iPad app.
Your rights
The account-scoped allowance is retained so deleting and reinstalling the app does not reset the five-photo demo. Recent operation identifiers are retained only to prevent a retried request from being counted twice. To request access to or deletion of the server-side record, contact us. We will provide a signed, on-device verification step so we can locate the opaque record without asking for your Apple password. To remove tracks and other content you control, delete the app and remove the EasyGeotag folder from your iCloud Drive.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date.
